Yes, it is. However, if you went back in time and, say, smashed your past selve's time machine, then a paradox would occur. In this case, your past self would not be able to go back and smash his past self's time machine, so therefor you would not exist. Since you never smashed his time machine, he is free to go back and smash it. Since he smashed it, you cannot go back and smash his time machine. This repeats infinitely, banning the universe from aging beyond this point.
In another paradoxal theorem, by going back in time you create an alternate history. You have one universe with you going back in time and dissapearing, and another of you appearing out of nowhere and smashing your time machine. In this universe, there will be two yous from that point on, and in the other one, you never come back from the future. each of these timelines brach off of one, which splits at the point of return form your future.
