Well, they both have thier strengths and weaknesses. Gamemaker has a lot of cool stuff, but only if you buy it. Scratch is free and makes developing much faster and is much less complicated than gamemaker, but it doesn't have much stuff. I like them both. Also, I think thier developing gamemaker for the mac.
There is a program that is comparable to scratch. It's called gamemaker. you can download it at yoyogames.com/make. Gamemaker has 3d features, and it has a built in programming language when you become more advanced. Personally, I like gamemaker better. It has way more features than Scratch.
