3D-ish effects in Scratch are possible using nothing but gradients. To prove this concept, I've created the following simple art piece using 0 sprites and 0 scripts. Its all just gradients on the background! ;] Oh, goodness - and now that is been uploaded I see that the web version looks kind of rough. Download this to view the effect without all those rings and bands. To get the same effect you see here, set a circular gradient to two similar greys in the paint bucket. Make one circle, then swap the front and back colors, and make another inside of it!
