Never heard of the parenting concept...that would not be as preferable as a Z index but it would be an improvement over what is there now. Today-layers, tomorrow-the world! (insert evil laugh here)

Yeah, a Z-Index would be nice... Perhaps even parenting, such that one layer can always be child+1 in the index. Oh, the raw power!muhahaha! ;]

I also am very interested in 3D perspective but I have been discouraged by my inability to control the layers with any exactness. Very frustrating. I'm hoping for better control in a future release at this point.

Cat will get bored in such a small, empty room. You should include some yarn for it to play with. Check out my Cat Trainer project for an attempt at perspective simulation. Where it gets tough is when you try to use the layers to put things "in front" or "in back" of other things.
