Manga are graphic novels that anime are based on. All anime are based on the manga. {Think of it as a tv series being based on a book, or a movie based on a novel} They are originally written in japanese, but are translated to english, and are sometimes read in the USA. I've only read the Bleach and Furuba(Fruits Basket) manga, but there are a whole lot of other manga out there, along with their animes. Do you get it? :-)
Anime is japanese cartoons, or if you will, animations. They are sometimes dubbed(or translated) to english. Other times, they can also be english subbed(have english subtitles) while still speaking japanese. Fruits Basket, Sailor Moon, and Bleach are some examples. They have all been translated to english(english dubbed), but there is also the original japanese version (with or without subs) that you can watch too. Do you understand now?
