The real name of the king is "Hammurabi" - famous for the law "Code of Hammurabi" in which is the original source of: "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth". The old BASIC version by David Ahl was misspelled "Hamurabi", possibly because of the 8-digit limit of file names on the early PCs.

Nice but in my first game sadly all my rats died and in my second game I got a nice healthy rat population of 2578 who then managed to eat me into a grain debt. "You have -1978 bushels of grain"

Did you consider tying animation to the results? Maybe showing a field in various stages of crop yield or a group of fat vs. thin people, etc.? Great game - just curious about a graphical representation of game concepts.

I really like the solution you used to get inlined comments in your code.

Yes - despite the java input problem it's very good - maybe the graphic upper right could change with each year depending on how well/badly the city is doing...

Very complex. I wouldn't have expected to find this sort of strategy game in 'Scratch'. Well done.

I can't seem to get the sliders to work in the Java version either. The sliders seem to work just fine when you download the project and run it on your "local" version of Scratch.... and this is a bug with Scratch itself and not necessarily what I wrote. I wish there were some other easy input method for doing numeric input, and perhaps I ought to try something else here.

How do you do it? I tried sliding the little buttons and I tried clicking in the boxes to change the numbers, but nothing happens. What should I click or whatever?

A hint on the rats.... make sure that you try to starve them out by buying land if you have quite a bit of grain. Watch for getting land at a cheap price. The rat population lives or dies based on how much grain you have left over in storage, and the number will drop dramatically if you starve them out.
