Download this project!
Download the 11 sprites and 37 scripts of "String Art" and open it in Scratch Project Notes
Creates various kinds of String Art (Designs all made with straight lines).
Controls - Clicking with the mouse adds new control points to the current design. When you have at least 3 points, the string art designs will fill in between your control points.
You can change the type of string art fill by clicking on the square graphic buttons at the bottom.
The other buttons are as follows: Break - Ends one pattern and allows you to start another. This also happens automatically when you pick a different fill type.
Bkgrnd - Change the background color to the same color as the current pen, only a little lighter shade.
Clear - Clears the screen of the current design without affecting the current pen color or line thickness or string art fill.
Snap - Toggles the snap grid.
Divisions - Sets the number of subdivisions between control points.
Experiment, you'll figure it out!

Yes, I do believe you have to know each other's IP address - which can be used to track down the town in which you live. So if that is a concern to you, you may not want to use it. The folks on the Advanced Topics forum can probably give you better information on this :)
(view all replies)I'm pretty sure it's safe - however I don't have any actual experience with it. Doesn't it only let two Scratch projects communicate? Since Scratch doesn't have any file manipulation commands - how much damage can it really do? Of course, if you are using it with a Scratch mod that does allow file manipulation (like Panther) - that raises the risk possibly.

Yes it is. You need the Scratch development program http://scratch.mit.edu/download, then you can download this particular project if you want and see it in the Scratch program.
Can you download the project to get the directions on how to do the project that you made ?
Sadly, I don't think this project has any comments in it (there was no comment capability in Scratch when it was made). But you might be able to figure it out from the scripts, which are pretty clear (to me at least). It does use variables though - so hopefully you understand those.

That would be fun...but I'm not sure how to even start on a project like that! Every game creation is a different adventure - some are simple and some are very hard. So I'm not sure how I could try and teach the process. But if you have a question, I would be happy to try to answer it :)

Try drawing a circle with the division being up to 47!!
found a cool glitch if you click one of the styles before it draws the beging thing it changes it so you can see wht it looks like!

A couple of years worth of Scratching :)
(I thought I added a comment but I don't see it.) I hope you'll take a look at my latest project "Motion Monitor" (link to project) I discovered (for myself) a new use for variables! (And the most math that can be expected of me.) It reminds me of modern laptops with accelerometers that can detect *falling* to protect the hard drive instantly.) I believe the arrow key scripting is something I learned from you. Anyway, I'm proud of this! :-)
I wanted to notify you of my latest project that monitors the motion (or lack of it) of a sprite! [The variables represent about as much math as can be expected of me.] It looks potentially useful. But I'm really proud of having discovered (for myself) a new use for variables. (link to project) I already have a plan for further developing it. (Compare to modern laptops with accelerometers to detect if they're falling to protect the hard drive.)

I suppose...but if you were so inclined, you could make the pattern out of string, since it only uses straight lines :)

Paddle2See, i was wanting to make a project but i need some help. I want you to be able to drag 3 dots to diffrent locations. Then, when you press a button it would draw a line from 1 point to the second one, while the third one is pulling the line. Could you please help me?

Of course! You can make a project about pretty much anything you like (as long as it meets the Terms of Use). If you would like help, I'd be happy to do what I can. Feel free to remix this project if you want, sometimes it's easier to start from something that is close to what you are looking for.
