Wow. This is beyond amazing. It seems like you are really enthusiastic about programming let alone scratch. I hope I could become a full scratcher or curator (: Is it ok if I remix it? It would be really cool and interesting. A collaboration I know would really appreciate it if you let them use it. Thanks
CEO of Doodle Company, Doodlerdude
This is amazing! I love the work you've put into this :D Could I suggest that when finish is clicked, you concate all the list items together using a repeat(length of list) function, so that the last item can be clicked and copied to post the scratchblocks code?
That's an interesting idea! I usually use this while downloaded so I can use the Export function. But I like the idea of being able to use it all on-line. I'll give that some thought :)
That message you got back means that the Scratch Team looked at it but felt that enough changes had been made that it was a valid remix. That's pretty much a judgement call - if you still disagree, you can use the Contact us form at the bottom of every page to state your case. Please don't put off-topic stuff on a forum topic - that's disruptive to the forums :)
Awesome! I've been following the development of the Raspberry Pi computer for some time now. It's really cool to see Scratch running on it. They're getting a few of them for the Media Lab at MIT - hopefully I can check it out if I can get down there for Scratch Day. Thanks for the link :)
Hi Paddle2See, I am creating a block tutorial covering the blocks in Scratch. It also contains the "[scratchblocks]" code needed in the forums. It will be uploaded soon. :)
I was hoping this would be real-looking scratch blocks. Would it be possible to get the actual block graphics on the forums? The amount of returns is very annoying, and the graphics inaccurate. (on the other hand, they are better then the previous graphics) If it is possible with squeak, shouldn't it be possible with... what do the forums use? What would be required?
Thanks!
The forums are in PHP which renders in HTML. So Squeak won't work which means the actual graphics can't be used. Things may work differently in Scratch 2.0 since the development editor itself will be online.
Also is this a new method of scratch forum coding because I heard That it was the BYOB? group that was trying to accomplish this. Also are the galleries code editors like forums or did you just make this system up yourself?
Are you talking about the [scratchblocks] script display capability in the forums? That was put together by JSO, a very talented Scratcher. I don't know if BYOB has it or not, sorry. The galleries are not a forum system...they were custom developed for the Scratch website.
My site is also animed to be a friendly community. I saw that you said any sort of chatting is disabled. Mine isn't but if anyone post anything I would limit the persons priveleges. See the homepage and about us at quakegames.webs.com Is it possible for you guys to restore the projects. I didn't know I had to contact you guys about it. Thanks! I will use your project a bit more. I was also in the middle of a game-builder for to post on the site and now I think I should make one for everyone.
I finally got some free time and visited your site. I was able to run the games myself, in the Java player (once I enabled the player to run in my browser). There was no thumbnail image of the project like we have on the Scratch site though - I'm not sure why, probably you should ask that on the Advanced Topics forum.
Cool! and advanced. Also I have a question since you are on the scratch team and I spoke with you before. It's about putting scratch projects on other websites. I have been entering the projects with the site, now I go in it and the scratchs projcts are disabled and I don't think it's the site error. Can the scratch team do this? I didn't tell the sctatch team about my site until I told them the link to it. I saw you posted in the forums on this. My site quite priveleges the community...
Hmmm. I'm not aware of anybody on the team doing anything with your site. You could send an email to help@scratch.mit.edu and they might be able to answer your question more fully.
Hey, Paddle! I'm hosting my forums via 000webhost now, which allows full editing of modifications and plugins. I see on http://www.assembla.com/spaces/scratchforums/tickets that you created a way so new scratchers can't post urls. Can you direct me to the actual source code/files involved?
Well, what's going to happen with the interview is that cartooncreator is going to post it on the next issue of 'Scratch News' I will give you the link when posted. Thank you for the interview!
This is your interview... I didn't know where to post it, so I decided to post it on here, is that ok? Anyway, Questions...
1. What was your first project called?
2. When did you join the Scratch Community?
3. Do you like helping others on Scratch?
4. Did you help design Scratch?
5. Do you think that being on Scratch, has helped you?
oops... thats my other account! Yeah... This was my first account on Scratch, I don't go on it anymore but it won't let me delete it for some reason...
I have a question, (link to project) this project, it was taken off the Top Viewed (sorted out because it was too old) but then it was flagged. I didn't get a message or even a ban. Do you know why?
This is very interesting! You are a very good programmer! This reminds me of a program I made. My program is a programming language made in scratch. Could you please take a look at it and tell me what you think?
(link to project)
They show up when they are needed - when there is a stacking block with a place for an insertable block. Try picking an If block (or other block that has places to fill in) and you will see.
I was just wondering, is the [scratchblocks] thing on the forum made with HTML? If it is, then may I please know what the HTML code that makes it work is?
An awesome piece of origami for sure! Is there anything more to it than a picture though? By the way, we have a forum for making feature nominations ... (link to forums)
That's actually the Scratch Paint editor color pallet. I went into the Paint Editor, then right clicked on the stage (outside the Paint Editor), picked "grab screen region for new sprite" and used my mouse to grab the Paint Editor color pallet. Then I edited it some to clean it up and remove parts I didn't want.
Sorry to hear that! Make sure you change your password right away (don't pick one that would be easy to guess)...and also make sure that you don't leave your account logged in.
Wow! I think a lot of hours went into your project here... I was thinking about a Scratch to html5 converter for a reduced number of blocks, but i gave up on this (link to forums)
It wasn't too bad...the hardest part was mapping all the locations of the Scratch blocks so that the mouse clicks could be turned into text strings. The HTML5 converter looks like an awesome project! I'm pretty sure somebody at MIT did a bit of work in that area too, kind of as a proof of concept.
Sorry, that's not really my area. I'm not sure how they are selected. If I had to guess, I would think it would be based on participation in previous Collab Camps and the ability to give good feedback on projects. Why, are you interested? I kind of got the impression that you were leaving Scratch for other interests.
Hey Paddle2See, we are having a conversation on the Scratch Wiki about publicizing the formula to become a New Scratcher and we think we need a member of the Scratch Team to decide. (link to wiki)
Hi, Paddle2See. You might think this is kind of weird, but I'd like to thank you for all you've done on Scratch for me and the community. I just love how you reply to nearly everyone on the forums who has problems, and reply to most comments on your projects. To me, you are the Scratch Website, as you participate so much on it. I just wanted to thank you for all you have done for Scratch, this legendary programming engine. Thanks! :D -Bobthejoe68
Thanks bobthejoe68! I really appreciate the warm sentiments - it makes my day. It's people like you that make Scratch such a great place to create and share :)
Hey, Paddle! Are you planning on implementing a universal variable in Scratch 2.0? A variable, like a high score that could change and then show up for all viewers, would be really helpful for games.
Oh sure, high scores is just one useful thing it could do. It could save game state, so that a game picks up right where it left off. It could be used to gather poll information - all kinds of handy things. I hope it becomes a feature as well.
I wish I could answer that! I know there was a lot of discussion about that among the development team members at one point. There were concerns about potential abuse of the feature and I don't really know if it is going to be rolled out or not.
This utility helps you build scripts in JSO's [scratchblock] format for use in the forums. If you want to use it for real, you will need to download so that you can export the list contents.
Hover the mouse over the colored circles on the left to bring up the sheet of blocks you want and then click on the block. If the blocks have a hole for other blocks, or other input, there will be a & character used as a placeholder token.
When there is a placeholder, you have two choices: You can use the Fill-In button to provide a value immediately using your keyboard, or you can keep selecting blocks.
When you Fill-in a value, you have three choices. The top choice "Var" will put "()" characters around what you input so that the parser will treat it as a variable name. The middle choice "Text" will put "[]" characters around your input so that the parser will treat it as raw text. The bottom choice "Color" will bring up a color pallet and insert the hex color code for the color you click on.
Note that placeholder tokens are processed from left to right. The current line you are working on is shown in the variable at the top of the screen.
When you are all done, click on the Finish button to put the [/scratchblock] end tag on it, export the contents of the scratchblock list (on the right) to a text file, then copy and paste into the forum post.
This is still pretty crude and there are likely to be bugs - please let me know and I'll try to fix them :)

Thanks! Sure, remix away...that's what Scratch is all about :)
Nice!

So...do you know of a way to insert a carriage return into a text string or a list element? I don't want to create a big text ball :)

(view all replies)Hey when someone replies on your forum do you get a message? Because I replied to one of your posts and it was important.

(view all replies)No, they don't - unfortunately. Can you give me a link?
(view all replies)Wow! I've alway wondered how some blocks work, but this project makes things a lot easier *__* Thank you!
You're welcome :)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-17742730 just a news item with a scratch connection!

I like :D
Hi Paddle2See, I am creating a block tutorial covering the blocks in Scratch. It also contains the "[scratchblocks]" code needed in the forums. It will be uploaded soon. :)
Sounds cool! If you want, you can use parts of this project to give you a "menu" system for getting at the specific blocks :)

(view all replies)Really a useful project, good work :)!! but I have a question: How did you do to allow to underline the text of the list?
Thanks - but I didn't do anything to get that effect. That's just the way lists are displayed online, I think.
(view all replies)On the wiki, the link is broken to become a contributor. So... can I become one. Thanks!
I think wiki signups are fixed now :)
(view all replies)Well, we don't handle the wiki - that's entirely run by Scratchers. Try leaving a comment on one of Scimonster's projects.

Aww you can't put a reporter block inside a distance to block
Wait, you made a Scratch using Scratch? Very interesting..
Not really :) It just builds text in a list that makes pictures of scripts in the forums. Nowhere near as complicated as actually building a language.

(view all replies)There's a bug! with the sin, cos ect. it's ([sin v] of (10)) :P
Thanks...I'll look into it.
You can get that...if you chose "Var" and then type in 10. The "Var" input surrounds it with () while the "Text" input surrounds it with [].
(view all replies)This is very interesting! You are a very good programmer! This reminds me of a program I made. My program is a programming language made in scratch. Could you please take a look at it and tell me what you think? (link to project)
