Hey, Paddle2See! You are a great scratcher! Anyway, you remind me of my AWESOME tech teacher, Mr. Rimes! You are an adult, right? If not, youre very mature!
Hi, paddle2see. Its me, sanitymantis! Im sanitymantises replacement account. Sadly, someone stole sanitymantises password! So, can we be freinds still?
Hi Paddle2See
Love this work.
I need someone to enter my gallery THE SCRATCH GALLERY. If you win it's compatishion you get a love it, your work gose on my website www.EGEmedia.co.uk, Your work gose into the Winners gallery, you go on my friends list and your work gose onto my favorets. All you need to do is put your name in the Tag Zone & add your work in and the best work on the Gallery wins the Compatishion. You can put as much work in the allery as you like but only one peace of your work will win!
This works well, and it's fun! To chop up a map, I'd fire up the gimp or photoshop: draw guidelines (drag from the rulers) every x-pixels. then for each of the squares you made, draw a box selection, copy and paste into a new document, and save... but that will get old fast if you have more than a few to do. Photoshop has a tool for chopping up images easily, I forgot what it's called, (there's a 30 day demo of photoshop) If you want to try scripting it, there's imagemagick. or I've set up blender to do this: animate the camera moving around the image projected on a plane. But that was a pain to set up. Let me know if I can help.
04lukeb - I'm glad you're enjoying it! Sorry to hear about your yacht moving on to other owners but there is a lot of fun to be had in small boat sailing (which is the only kind I've really done). And it's pretty cool to be able to throw the boat on a trailor and take to some other body of water. As far as the simulation goes, I've been thinking about making a scrolling version so I can take longer journeys. I'm looking for a good software package that can chop up my raster charts into small Scratch-sized backgrounds - got any suggestions?
Excellent. I have been trying to make a sailing game for ages but I haven't been able to. I like the sea texture too. I know quite a bit about sailing as me and my family have been sailing since I was born (I am now 15) We have a 27ft yacht which we are unfortunatley selling due to lack of use. But we used to go sailing every single holiday off school. We sailed to France, Ireland and the scilly isles (we live in Devon, England) Once we sailed to Ireland and our gybe and boom broke in a bad storm, we had to get rescued by lifeboats. Now I am dinghy sailing. It has become a hobby since we stopped sailing our yacht. dinghy sailing is fun as you get more of a sense of speed and it is fun to capsize! Usually I sail lasers on reservoirs in Devon. Anyway it is lovely to see a sailing sim that works so well. It makes me think back to my childhood memories of being on our yacht.
Pretty realistic behavior and nice graphics. I’ve tried to sail with no great success, but I blamed the online environement. So, I downloaded and get on board for getting some wrecks at the islands, but it was my PC fault. Then I’m going on with the practice and I hope I‘ll be a good sailor within about the next ten years. By now, I’m trying to reach the second buoy. Eh, eh, eh.
Chalkmarrow - My first thought was to do a physics-based simulation as well. I had trouble locating information I could make sense of though, so I switched to the simpler "black box" approach you see here.
This is really nice! I started a sailboat project a few months ago, where you had to tack etc. manually, and I could never get the physics right. The way you've done it is way better. Nicely done!
Hello, and may I say nice project, anyway I am from Lanie's Scratch.Mit.Edu magazine, I am an interveiwer and I was wondering if yiu would like to be interveiwed, It's just five questions about waht you think of scratch, write back on one of my projects.
-Thanx,
Jman
Did a little more work on the artwork and toned down the wake quite a bit. Bluekingice, if the boat gets stuck in a turn, try throwing the rudder over to the other side and wait for the wind to blow you backwards a bit, that might be enough to move the boat away from the wind enough that the sail can start moving the boat forward again. As soon as it does, turn a little bit away from the wind to make sure you don't end up in the "No Go Zone" again.
Gave up flying many years ago when I started the "family". Sailing is pretty similar, with one less dimension (the dangerous one). Sailing has the same kind of strategy/mental effort, and the "not just any idiot can do it" appeal that flying has, with much less risk and expense.
Spinnaker may be asking for a bit much. The polar curve for speed is spot on, most non-sailors assume that down-wind is the fastest, but the "curve" points out that sailing with the wind also means less relative wind to provide the drive...
Yeah, it can be VERY hard to do, depending on the wind. If you get a Northeast wind, it can be quite tough. If you want hard, just click the green flag a few times until you get a wind coming from the upper right corner.
Ignition key! You lubber! Made some slight changes...sail angle is now more realistic on the beam reach. I shrunk the boat down some to allow it to manuever better.
Very cool. I've been thinking of doing a sailing project, but never got around to it... I like the handling of getting out of irons. Any plans to upgrade from the Beetle Cat to a boat with jib and a spinnaker to fly?
Nice water too, mind if I snag it for my sub game?
Aaaw! my name be Robinson... honey, where's the ignition key?! He he, nice! What a metaphoric overkill: Sailing in Paddle's boat while surfing on the internet...
