As you probably noticed with your fixit account, I made a record player thingy which also has draggable rotation. (link to project)

How do you make a sprite draggable in an enclosed space without the "go to mouse-pointer" script?

I would have used that...but I didn't want the center of the picture jumping to the mouse...instead, what I was looking for was if the mouse moved one inch, the picture should move one inch. So I used a "Go To X,Y" block where I continually compute the new X and Y based on the mouse movement relative to the original position of the picture. Overly complex? Maybe, but I like the way it came out!

Ericr - That's obvious! Which way will make my project work? The answer is on Mouse Down! However, that is just my opinion and I am definately biased right now. If you could make the Touching Mouse Pointer *not* trigger when the sprite is hidden by another sprite I would be happy too. Maybe this is something that needs to be discussed in the Forum.

so, re: the bug discussed below, there is indeed an inconsistency ("when clicked" triggers on mouse-down off-line vs on mouse-up on-line). we'll look into fixing it! We have to decide which one is right... any votes?

My Project “Puzzle” was working pretty well at home but it didn’t work on line. I give up to understand it. Then, I saw this Project of yours and I looked inside. Back to my “Puzzle” I replaced all the “When sprite clicked” by “When flag”, “forever”, “if mouse down” as I had seen here, and now it’s working online!!!! Thanks Padle.

Ericr - I took your advice and rewrote the project using "When Clicked" and it worked great offline in Production Mode. However, when I uploaded it, it didn't work at all. It appears that a "When Clicked" event is triggered on Mouse Down in the off-line environment but not until Mouse Up on-line. Since all my code was written for a Drag operation, that kind of screws things up.

Forest - Tangrams are a set of shapes (triangles, rectangles, more?). You are given the silhouete of an assembly and are challenged to find the arrangement of shapes that would yield the assembly.

Ericr - Well, that explains why Chalkmarrows project works; he is using the When Sprite Clicked hat! It would be great if you can fix it so that "touching mouse pointer" only fires when the sprite is the topmost sprite. If not, I can probably come up with a work-around now that I know what the problem is. Thanks for your help!

okay! the problem was that "touching mouse pointer?" is true even if the sprite is below another sprite. So, the layering is ignored in that case, and all sprites that are in the spot clicked on get the event. It looks like you were trying to avoid race conditions using a global flag to avoid a sprite being selected when somebody else was already selected, but the problem is that the sprite who wins the race is determined by the (fixed) order in which sprites pass around control, not by the layer order. Hope that made sense, it's hard to explain. So, at first I was playing around with making a way to keep track of layer numbers... but it looks like it would be complicated (especially the need to determine, of the set of sprites receiving a click, who is on the highest layer). BUT fortunately, I remembered that the "when sprite clicked" hat does NOT have this problem- only the sprite on the top layer gets that event. So using that instead should fix the problem. I'll post a fixed version shortly...

Actually, you may want to issue a challenge for people to turn this into a Tangram project. A variety of age ranges could probably do it, to varying degrees. Nice canoe-cam shot, also. Looks peaceful.

Excellent! Way better. I was thinking of making a Tangram project that used this type of movement (minus the scaling), but I would probably use your project as a basis instead. And I had the same issue with overlapping sprites. ..
