In a math camp I went to, we played with this formula in a programing language called seelogo and made things like this:
http://clarkberg.org/mathcamp/uploads/Main/spiral_spiders.png
We called them spiral spiders.
I made this swirly effect by accident, whilst experimenting with pattern making.
The black ‘wheel’ is created by forever moving 10 steps and turning by N degrees. Where N starts at zero for the first loop and changes by 1 each loop. Bizarrely, this forever loop (of moving 10 spaces and turning by N degress) creates an “S” shape!
The pen is used to create the colours. Each time the loop is run the pen changes colour by 1. When the wheel is moving on the spot the colours are also changed on the spot.
Thanks for the feedback. :)

That's amazing to me that turning N degrees results in an S shape!
Wow Jasper, that's given me inspiration. I may recreate a spiral spider in Scratch! :)

Nice effect! It makes me curious to download the code and see how th swirly sprite changed what's underneath it. Was it with the pen?
