you know what would be cool? if each arrow had red, white, or blue painted on it . then make it into the american flag. it would look cool when the triangle parts of the strips or stars followed the mouse. does that make sense ?

Nice job. I guess you extend this idea to people watching the ball at a tennis match -- all the heads and eyes going this way and that. Well done.
I echo Jens' comment - such a simple idea that I'm surprised no-one thought of it before. A colour shift for arrowheads nearest the mouse-pointer could also be good. Nice one.
Simple yet effective. I like it. As Jens said, it puts me in mind of magnetic field patterns - and it would be interesting to see an actual simulation of mini-compasses around a wire with and without charge...
