Every time you battle another pokemon (exept in link matches and battle tower matches) your pokemon will gain something known as an Effort Point. Pokemon usually give out certain EPs depending on how strong/times evolved they are, and is usually their highest stat. for example, an Abra will give 1 Ep in sp. Atk, Kadabra will give 2 and Alakazam will give 3. However, if 2 stats are about the same, it will be different. Eg. Bulbasaur and its evolutions's Sp. Atk and Sp. Def are equal. Bulbasaur gives 1 Ep in Sp. atk. Ivysaur gives out 1 in sp. atk and 1 in sp. def. Venusaur gives out 2 in sp. atk and 1 in sp. def. A Pokemon may give no more than 3 EPs. In the case that all of the pokemons stats are equal, HP EV is given out. A ditto will give out 1 because it is weak. A Mew will give 3 because it is strong. for every 4 EPs you get in a certain stat, they are made into a stat boost which is visable as 1 stat at lv. 100. for example, if you had a lv. 99 Pikachu with no EVs, and you used a Rare candy on it, it would have about... 115 attack at lv. 100. However, if you turned off your game and raised the Pikachu against 4 pidgeys, it would have 116 speed at lv. 100. If you raised it to 255 (maximum for 1 stat) EPs in speed before it lved up, it would boost its speed by 63 and would give it 178 speed. This is a huge difference. Now on to the EP boosters. Power items, Macho Brace and PKRS are all stat boosters. now, Macho brace and PKRS double the recieved EPS, so Abra would give 2 instead of 1 EP in sp. atk, and Alakazam would give 6 instead of 3. Combine PKRS and Macho brace, and you get 4 times the EPs. Alakazam would now give 12 EPs, thats 3 Sp. atk gained at lv. 100 in one Pokemon. Now, Power items are very good. they don't multiply, but add on EPs by 4. So, abra would give 5 whilst alakazam would give 7. Now, you can combine this with PKRS, so now Abra gives 10 since the formula for it would be ( if EP is X, it would be (X+4)*2. Abra would give 10 EPs.) ALOT. Now, this is important. Since Alakazam and Venusaur cannot normally be seen in the wild, you will have to stick to the pre- evos. I would suggest the following pokemon: HP- Bidoof (1 EP - the route between sandgem and twinleaf) Attack - Bibarel (2 EPs ( below Solacean town where the hallowed tower is) Defence - Geodude and Onix (1 EP - common in oreburgh mines) Sp. Atk - Gastly (1 EP - in the abandoned mansion in Eterna forest, Haunter gives 2 EP so it is also good) Sp. Def - Tentacruel (2 Ep - In the sea above Sunyshore, Mantyke give 1 EP in SP. def so they are good) Speed - Starly (1 EP, between sandgem and twinleaf) And tht is a load of stuff about EVs.
