It isn't "slippery". The arrow keys set a running speed, and he then runs at that constant speed. He doesn't automatically slow down, just keeps running at that speed.
The only purpose of this demo is to demonstrate how two sprites can be kept in perfect synch to allow separate animation of different parts. In this case, the legs for running and the upper-body for punching.
I have no idea how this has scored "top viewed" as it was really only meant as a demo for thecooltodd - I am fully aware that there are better jumping games - I should know, as I have written some of them, eg: (link to project)
The velocity works perfectly - he accelerates and decelerates according to key presses. Some people might prefer him to automatically decelerate, but that is a preference, not an error.
Helping out thecolltodd.
2 sprite version of his ninja sprite to allow punching and running simultaneously, using variables broadcast to the 2 parts to ensure synchronisation.
Note the different speed of leg costume changes - this is controlled by a variable called "walkanimationdelay" which is increased by the ninjas current velocity and compared to a given number to see if it is time to change!

I can see that, that is what you are trying to achieve, but the current is too strong if you move too much

Mayhem, good , but dont make it so slippery, if you made this a game, you would fall off the platforms no matter how good you are

There are so much better jump and runs which arent on the front page. that's not fair. you can only go through one level here

Very smooth - you can call it "Ice Ninja"! It's not a bug, it's a design choice.

Hey look, comments works for me now. Thanks Mayhem!

Friction is not non-existent because without friction he wouldn't be able to accelerate to even move in the first place.
(view all replies)Comment Reply
you need to add friction. Other than that good.

nvm

oh you stated that.

the velocity dosnt really work.

And the platform detection isn't great, but they were only added to let me test the jumping acceleration variables.

What this doesn't have at the moment that perhaps would be useful is automatic deceleration.
