Well, it took me awhile to figure it out, but I think it works like this: A single click will reposition the sprite but has no effect on the rectangle that is drawn. The rectangle is drawn if there is a drag operation from the beginning of the drag to where the mouse is released. Line color appears to be cycling through the rainbow. This is a lot of fun! I'm making all kinds of modern art!
