I think at this point only Paddle2See's bugs (the blue ones) are having babies. But yep, they grow up to be full sized, as long as there are enough leaves to eat.
Yep - it's just a minor tweak on paddle2see's idea. There's room many more different kinds of bugs in there though. So feel free to remix and add your own.
Very detailed costumes...I'm impressed! I haven't seen any baby crickets yet but looking at the scripts, it seems like they have that capability. You can always decrease the amount of energy they use per cycle, that will make them perform better.
Thanks! Yeah there are a bunch of parameters I could tweak but I was trying to keep the metabolism / energy use levels about the same for the cricket and the bug. I might try and change it a bit sometime soon. Yeah, this would make a great remix and add your own project!
That is a most elegant cricket! It seems to be doing pretty well, running online...it's been alive now for about 5 minutes. It is difficult to tune them in properly...it took me hours and hours to get my bugs to the point where I was happy with them (or tired of thinking of them...same idea!). Thanks for adding your creation to the mix...maybe this can become one of those remix-and-add-your-own projects!
Based on Paddle2See's project, but I added my own bug. The cricket is not thriving like I'd like him to yet...this is an interim release.
Artificial life is tough, but cool!
From original: This is an experiment in Artificial Life...feed the bugs by clicking the mouse on the stage. This version has reproducing bugs...it is somewhat laggy though, and I had to scrap the footprints.
The Bug ====== + Eats green "Plants" when it is hungry (low on energy)
+ Shows it's energy state by the green beads on it's back...more beads, higher energy
+ Finds plants with its antenae
+ Remembers and returns to the last place it ate food, if it doesn't find something to eat within 20 steps.
+ Burps when it is full and will avoid food until it is hungry again (at half energy level)
+ Turns grey and stops when it dies
+ Can be picked up by you, using the mouse
+ Will have a baby, if it has at least half energy and it is fully grown
The Plants ======== + Like to grow next to existing plants but will also spawn new plant colonies
+ Can be produced by you by clicking on the stage. Hold down the mouse button for a continuous fall of leaves.
Possible Improvements: ================= + Evolution with genetic variation and Natural Selection.
+ Sleep? Predators?

aww! a baby cricket!
Very nice. Are the baby bugs of different sizes or are they supposed to grow bigger over time?
