Wow, I'm glad you won and escaped the mines! Thanks for your nice comment. And I did an updated version called "Sonar Minefields V" where the mines are moved around each time, and you can leave a trail wherever you have been... Thanks again for your comment!
Thanks! There's an enhanced version called "Sonar Minefields V" with some additions that might interest you...including different layouts for the mines from game to game. Good luck!
Congrats!! You might find "Sonar Minefields V" fun: it adds some features and randomly arranges the mines differently each time. Good players like you need more challenges!! :-)
As I recall, I had done several projects where the movement of a sprite made something else happen, specifically a sound. (See "Musical Planets" "Trio -- uh, Quartet" and others) Then my sounds made *graphs* of various sorts. And then I thought: what if approaching danger made a sound??!! And that started it. And now there's "Sonar Minefields V" which is even harder but maybe more interesting. Thanks for asking, and for your nice comment. :-)
Of course, with no audio in "Sonar Minefields V" you may have a problem or two. But you seem to enjoy things a lot (even lack of audio!) so you'll do fine! :-)
The next step is to try "Sonar Minefields V"....with a different mine layout each time, a chance to leave a trail so you can backtrack, and other new features!! Try it and let me know how you do. Thanks for trying this project. It got so much recognition I've left the original version online and added "V" also.
In the Project Notes it tells you how to view the mines, then hide them again. Maybe that would help with listening to the tones. Thanks for trying the game...and keeping at it. Just click the Start button...then the Goal button. Good luck!!
Well, now you can try to go out of the screen....but watch out for the new electric fence that was just installed. The newer version, "Sonar Minefields V" has the fence already, plus some other nice features...
That's one reason I created a newer project called "Sonar Minefields V" to avoid that problem. Another Scratcher had told me about it. People are very helpful in pointing out problems. It's hard to create a perfect project without help....for me, anyway. Thanks for your help. Maybe I'll add a fence to this one too...
Just six months ago, maybe even four months ago, I couldn't program this game either. And it wouldn't have the rising warning tones if it wasn't for the help of Paddle2See. And lots of Scratchers tried it out and pointed out problems. It takes a lot of people to make a good project, at least in my case. And I'm never sure there isn't another error waiting to bite me!! But we keep Scratching! :-)
This project got so much recognition that I've left it online pretty much as it was. And then added "Sonar Minefields V" with improvements (I hope!) and more difficulty and variety. I hope you might consider that a "fix" maybe. If you try it, please let me know what you think. Thanks for your comment and best wishes.
That has happened to me too. I listen really close to a mine to keep the tone low....and forget to press the Spacebar to check for more mines. Uh-oh. Blown up. Could that have happened to you?
You must be TOO GOOD! That's weird. We'll see if other people respond to your comments to say the same thing. Have you tried "Sonar Minefields V" yet to see how it does? Your comments are really appreciated. It's hard to make a perfect project without help...
You might have to click the Stop Sign to clear everything, then the Green Flag. I tried 4 times (with no Sonar) and got caught every time. It may also take some seconds to reset everything. Please try again and let me know how it goes. You can also try "Sonar Minefields V" which has more features!! :-) Thanks for letting me know about potential problems.
You pointed out an error in the game: I assumed everyone would use the Sonar so the mine-contact scripts were in the Sonar scripts. Now I've added a separate script for people who try to walk the field without using the Sonar. Best of luck to them. And THANKS so much for pointing out the error!!
Do you mean you hit a mine and all you got was a lousy text message? Or that you walked all over the minefield and had no problems? Or that you worked with the Sonar and avoided all the mines...arriving safely every time? Thanks for trying the project and for commenting!
Keep on going! I keep learning a lot from other peoples' projects and you're obviously going to improve on the idea of a minefield. More real, for one thing. Thanks for trying the project and making a comment.
If you have time, try the newer "Sonar Minefields V" which among other things deals with the problem you point out. Thanks for mentioning this: I had forgotten how far off the screen a Sprite can go...
Thanks!! If you have time, try the newer version "Sonar Minefields V" which uses some of the suggestions I've received from Scratchers, and has some new features.
Thanks for your ideas. In my new "Sonar Minefields V" the background is much darker and there are several minefields and other improvements. But no explosions.... Sorry.
Such a good idea that I did it! Thanks! You'll see it in my new "Sonar Minefields V." And there are other improvements as well thanks to Scratchers' suggestions.
Thanks! I hope my new "Sonar Minefields V" is even greater. It has random mine placements and other improvements. If you have time, give it a try please.
Maybe even more interesting is my new "Sonar Minefields V" which has different placings of the mines and other improvements. Thanks for trying my project!
My new "Sonar Minefields V" has several different ways of arranging the mines, plus some other improvements. (But only one level so far.) I hope you'll give it a try.
Good point. I've been thinking about moving the mines randomly from game to game, but your idea of levels is better. I've never made levels before, so it'll probably take some time. Thanks for the idea.
Thanks again for the formula! By the way, I've uploaded "Sonar Minefields V" which has a number of improvements, including randomization of mine placement. But wait, there's more.... :-)
Using standard algebra techniques to derive the line equation through those points gives an equation of Note Pitch = 110 - .75 * Distance. You can plug in are two points and see that they work out. Hope that helps.
Sonar Minefield has been updated so the sound works right. And your contribution is mentioned in the Project Notes. Also fixed a logical error in the "Mine-contact" routines that allowed somebody to touch a mine without triggering the "disaster" screen. Beep-rate remains unchanged. Still pondering the "Y-intercept method" of deriving an equation from a line...
Your equation worked perfectly in a quick "Audio Detector" I built. (Although to understand the algebra I had to email an ex-math-major who tutored me on the slope-intercept technique! How the years have flown.) Now I should rebuild Sonar Minefield on my computer. Thanks for solving the one thing that had always bothered me about Sonar Minefield: it's counter-intuitive to have the pitch DROP as one gets closer to a mine!
Hi - you were asking about making the pitch rise as the distance decreased. That problem boils down to finding the equation for a line that passes through two points. Lets say at distance = 120 you want a pitch of 20 and at a distance of 0 you want a pitch of 110 (these seemed like good pitches to me, by trial and error). So your two points are (120,20) and (0,110).
you come up with the greatist games ever. how long have you been on scratch? Sega or whoever make those pac-man type games in gamerooms should call you for a deal!
Thanks for such a nice comment!! I hope you'll have time to try my new "Sonar Minefields V" which has lots of improvements and is even harder. But even better, I think.
Use the Arrow keys to walk through a minefield. Stay inside the electric fence or you'll get zapped! ___*Every few steps* press the Spacebar to use your Sonar to look for mines: you'll hear a low-pitched beeping. As the beeps go higher you're getting CLOSER to a mine. Try changing your direction a bit. Sometimes you might hear two mines at once! Don't let the beeps get too high... If you're too scared, click the Start button to reveal the mines. Then click the Goal square to hide them again. Good luck! Oh, if you don't use the Sonar.....we wish you REALLY good luck!! __And special thanks to Paddle2See who helped me program the change in pitch of the beeps! ---NOTE: right now after a loss I have to click the Green Flag TWICE to reset things. A mystery, but it works.

I won! This is interestingly different.

(view all replies)Nice game, I won!
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you won. You must have a good ear.
(view all replies)SWEET!
cool game!! where'd u get the idea?

(view all replies)i dont get it this game is really wierd whats the point of it. i lose every single time.

wowwe !!!
Thanks! It's always nice to get comments like yours.
just go out of th screen and go around th whol thing it aint that hard lol

great larry why dont ya'll check this (link to project)
(link to project) Awesome!!!
if you can fix it, it's good. if you can't then not so good, but great start on an awesome game!!!!!!!!

(view all replies)I DON'T GET IT I was on the lowest note you could get and ran on a stinkin mine!
That has happened to me too. I listen really close to a mine to keep the tone low....and forget to press the Spacebar to check for more mines. Uh-oh. Blown up. Could that have happened to you?
(view all replies)still didnt got me!

Good!
I love it!
i don't think it's quite good enough to be featured, but i still love it and favorite it!
I'm glad you enjoyed playing the game. You might enjoy the newer version "Sonar Minefields V" which is more complicated and has more features.
(view all replies)Good game!
see my projects and comment and give suggestions
i didnt see anything bad happen so ???

(view all replies)I was on my 3 try and I won!!!
I was just in the middle of making a minefield project... darn. Nice job! (Mine'll have you explode!)
Keep on going! I keep learning a lot from other peoples' projects and you're obviously going to improve on the idea of a minefield. More real, for one thing. Thanks for trying the project and making a comment.
sweet project!!! will you please look at my project "drip drop" thanks!
Really nice project! And lots of people are looking at it. I left a comment or two...
(view all replies)lol just cling to the side. Another reason that you should make them go to different places each time.
If you have time, try the newer "Sonar Minefields V" which among other things deals with the problem you point out. Thanks for mentioning this: I had forgotten how far off the screen a Sprite can go...
You should make the mines go to different places each time.
wow!!!!!!very good project!!
Thanks!! If you have time, try the newer version "Sonar Minefields V" which uses some of the suggestions I've received from Scratchers, and has some new features.
Very difficult.
Moving slowly and carefully helps me a lot. Thanks for trying the Project! And for your comment. Comments help with future projects.
(view all replies)This is cool, but add more levals.
♥ it!!!
Thanks! Now there's "Sonar Minefields V" which is even harder, and maybe more interesting.
It'd be a little better with explosions and a black background but I give it a love it
Thanks for your ideas. In my new "Sonar Minefields V" the background is much darker and there are several minefields and other improvements. But no explosions.... Sorry.
You should randomise the position of each mine. But good job!
That might not be a good idea. While it is great, you might get the exit or start blocked by mines.
(view all replies)Such a good idea that I did it! Thanks! You'll see it in my new "Sonar Minefields V." And there are other improvements as well thanks to Scratchers' suggestions.
(view all replies)Great, although you should try making the beeps quieter.
The volume is set to 50% so I hope that is OK. You can see more improvements in my new "Sonar Minefields V." Thanks for your interest in the project.

Thanks! Maybe you'd enjoy my new "Sonar Minefields V" which has some improvements.
great game
Thanks! So is your "Topo 2." I hope you'll try my new "Sonar Minefields V" which has some improvements. Would Topo make it through the minefields? :-)
(view all replies)awesome!
Thanks!! I hope you'll try my new "Sonar Minefields V" which has some big improvements, thanks to suggestions from Scratchers.
cool d ya like my project? (link to project)
I see that your link is in French. lol... "Lien vers le projet"
Coolio!
Thanks! I hope you'll try my new "Sonar Minefields V" which has some big improvements...and is harder.
