I noticed a bug: I told Eliza that I had a headache, and she said "How is he doing these days?". I think Eliza is sensing the word "he" in "headache" (HEadache). You might want to fix that. :)
E: what's up? M: Not much E: Aren't we just a bit negative today? M: A little. Let's talk about the weather. E: How is he doing these days? M: You mean the weather? E: I'm actually quite boring, let's talk about you. M: Okay... I'm a very interesting person and this definitely qualifies as a positive sentence. E: Do you think that it's likely that if ys as a positive sentence.? M: It definitely does E: Hmmm.... Interesting, could you explain a little bit better? (cont.)
M: okay. positive is the opposite of negative, which this sentence is not E: Aren't we just a bit negative today? M: No, I just said that I was not E: Aren't we just a bit negative today? M: NO! E: Aren't we just a bit negative today? M: NO! E: You're being repetitious. M: thats true. E: Hmmm... Interesting, could you explain a little bit better? M: I mean that you are right E: What makes you think that I am righ? M: you just are E: did you think that they might not be? (cont.)
Your eliza is like the real one:
Real Eliza: You seem quite positive!
Your Eliza: You seem quite sure!
Real Eliza: I am not interested in names.
Your Eliza: Names, who needs names?
Real Eliza: You are being a bit negative.
Your Eliza: Aren't we just a bit negative today?
A great project. Very impressive. I had actually started working on an Eliza program with a genuine 70’s style TTY output. I switch to making an adventure game instead because parsing entire sentences was too hard. But you did it! You’re so smart!
This is astonishing! The problem with Eliza is that whenever I talk to it,I eventually threaten to kill it. I yell things like "I'm going to disconnect the internet!" or "I'm going to turn off my computer!" Its quite fun, actually. This Eliza has the right personality, though it is rather polite. Such as "You are being a bit negative (Real Eliza)." and "Aren't we being a bit negative today? (Your Eliza)". Anyway, great work!
My conversation: Eliza: Hi, what's up?
Me: Hello
Eliza: How do you do?
Me: good
Eliza: Hmmm.... Interesting, could you explain a little bit better?
Me: I am doing good
Eliza: Did you think they might not be doing goo?
Me: You sound weird.
Eliza: I'm actually quite boring, let's talk about you.
Me: I'm gonna do the NAMES GLItCH
Eliza: Names, WHO needs names?
Me: YOU'RE DOING THE NAME GLITCH!!!!
Eliza: Names, WHO needs names?
Me: Names, WHO needs names?
Eliza: Names, WHO needs names
?
Eliza: You're being repetitious.
Me: You're being repetitious
Eliza: What makes you think I am being repetitious?
Me: you're& pie@#
Eliza: Hmmm.... Interesting, could you explain a little bit better?
Me: BYE
Eliza: It's been a pleasure talking to you, bye.
end of conversation
I have downloaded and tested Eliza and found that she has trouble comprehending the concept of names and love and does not know when she is complimented. I will post the conversation record soon
what do the symbols @ and # mean in the response list. I want to give it a sense of time, and i just want to know what symbol will make it repeat the keyword...
it's actually supposed to be a complete - just ever so slightly modified - port, but from a secondary source, as I did not find the original listing. Plus, it's still quite buggy...
He's Jens. he MAKES new test versions of scratch and stuff. He is a member of the scratch team I think. he might have even helped MAKE 1.4. I think that's how he got 1.4.
AWESOME i can't wait to get 1.4, that function will be a big help with my series; de-mond there will be a special password to use if your in the fan club, can you make me a demo of 1.4 please?
Download the 2 sprites and 29 scripts of "Eliza" and open it in Scratch
Project Notes
Tribute to Joe Weizenbaum.
Excrutiatingly slow in Scratch, this must be how AI felt like in the Sixties, Eliza is the first Scratch project I can chat with about its own bugs:
Eliza: Hi, what's up? Me: I want to test you Eliza: What would it mean to you if you got to test you? Me: you don't get it, it's about you Eliza: I'm actually quite boring, let's talk about you. Me: My name is Jens Eliza: Names, WHO needs names? Me: Oh, anyway I'm glad you're working Eliza: What makes you think I am workin? Me: your answers start making sense to me Eliza: Why are you concerned over my nwr tr aigsnet o? Me: Oh, now there is a glitch Eliza: Aren't we just a bit negative today? Me: I wish I could find that bug Eliza: I'm actually quite boring, let's talk about you. Me: please show me that bug Eliza: Why do you ask? Me: because that bug annoys me Eliza: Is that the real reason? Me: I'm also eager to share you Eliza: Why are you interested in wheter I am or not? Me: because I'm ontologically challenged ;-) Eliza: Is that the real reason? Me: let's call it a day, good bye Eliza: Hmmm.... Interesting, could you explain a little bit better? Me: bye Eliza: It's been a pleasure talking to you, bye.

I notice that a comment below mine shows that Eliza sensed the word "he" in "the" or "weather". Hmmmmm...
THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOOO COOL!!! Too bad it is so slow.
Download it and run it in Turbo-Speed and it'll run faster.

I notice that if you run Eliza in Turbo-Speed, it's much quicker. Have you tried that? It really helps.
Yes, I have, but only after you said to. Good idea!
eliza just shrinks and shrinks. What happened?
you know, that's strange, because offline it works (it shrinks and grows again)

seriosly! this is awesome!
Cool scripts. This is stupid i know, but what is eliza?
Eliza was program by Joe Weizenbaum in the 60's, the first one to pass the Turing test for artificial intelligence
(view all replies)Wow!! Awesome scripts!
YOU'RE THE ONE WITH THE PINEAPPLECAT
(view all replies)(the two spaces between "I am" and "a" were there, and the period and question mark were there as well)
Me: You are a fart brain. Eliza: What makes you think I am a fart brain.?
it kinda werd
It always just hovers away...
Right, this must be a bug in the java player, because when I run it in Scratch it shrinks and grows again
I don't get it
Congratulations Jens!
Very cool. How is the German Version of Numbers coming? Soon I hope;=>

(view all replies)I'm thinking of making something like this
I said LOL. But then she shrunk into oblivion.
That's right, this mus be a bug in the java player. If you download Eliza and play it offline, the graphic effects work correctly.
(view all replies)Wow, that's ambitious. Really putting the string processing through its paces. Do you have a music credit?

Cool, but so . . . . . painfully . . . . . . . slow . . . . . . :)
it really is genius, though
I have downloaded and tested Eliza and found that she has trouble comprehending the concept of names and love and does not know when she is complimented. I will post the conversation record soon
Cool! I'd love to read the transcript of your conversation with Eliza!
(view all replies)And what's with the capitals?
Haha, you're right about those (but there are worse bugs in there yet)
why is it so darn slow????
what do the symbols @ and # mean in the response list. I want to give it a sense of time, and i just want to know what symbol will make it repeat the keyword...
Those symbols are place-holders and are turned into variable substrings when they become parsed
(view all replies)Darn, you beat me too it!
Ah, but it's still very buggy. I'd love to look at a *working* version, lol!
Cool! I was trying to find the Eliza source code myself. Is this a complete port or did you simplify it for Scratch?
it's actually supposed to be a complete - just ever so slightly modified - port, but from a secondary source, as I did not find the original listing. Plus, it's still quite buggy...
Surprisingly slow. But also surprisingly GENIUS.
You guys, heres scratch 1.4 http://web.media.mit.edu/~jmaloney/scratch1.4rc/ScratchInstaller1.4rc.exe
it doesn't work
(view all replies)wait. what happened to the text block?? how does it know backspace?
It does it knows EVERYTHING!
OMG HOW DID YOU GET 1.4????
look at my comment.
13 downloads!!! apparently more people downloaded then loved it! that is weird!
Great! I didn't think Eliza was possible in Scratch, but you made it! Also first time I see Scratch 1.4 works online :-)
it works with almost every key on the keyboard
lol i downloaded it on 1.3.1!
where'd you get 1.4?
He's Jens. he MAKES new test versions of scratch and stuff. He is a member of the scratch team I think. he might have even helped MAKE 1.4. I think that's how he got 1.4.
(view all replies)i tried downloading 0.0 its crazy, don't try on 1.3
I did :D its fun.
(view all replies)AWESOME i can't wait to get 1.4, that function will be a big help with my series; de-mond there will be a special password to use if your in the fan club, can you make me a demo of 1.4 please?
Oh ! I wanted to make this project Eliza ! Good job but slow. Can you have a better speed (with scratch 1.4)?
I think turbo speed might make it faster... I just can't wait now for scratch 1.4, if only just so I could download this project!!
when does 1.4 actually come out?
wow I downloaded and ran in scratch 1.3.1 and it is really weird.
OH MY GOSH the conversation you have in your project notes is so funny!
OMG!!! 1.4!!! YAAY!! :D this is ssoooo cool!!!
