Excrutiatingly slow in Scratch, this must be how AI felt like in the Sixties, Eliza is the first Scratch project I can chat with about its own bugs:
Eliza: Hi, what's up?
Me: I want to test you
Eliza: What would it mean to you if you got to test you?
Me: you don't get it, it's about you
Eliza: I'm actually quite boring, let's talk about you.
Me: My name is Jens
Eliza: Names, WHO needs names?
Me: Oh, anyway I'm glad you're working
Eliza: What makes you think I am workin?
Me: your answers start making sense to me
Eliza: Why are you concerned over my nwr tr aigsnet o?
Me: Oh, now there is a glitch
Eliza: Aren't we just a bit negative today?
Me: I wish I could find that bug
Eliza: I'm actually quite boring, let's talk about you.
Me: please show me that bug
Eliza: Why do you ask?
Me: because that bug annoys me
Eliza: Is that the real reason?
Me: I'm also eager to share you
Eliza: Why are you interested in wheter I am or not?
Me: because I'm ontologically challenged ;-)
Eliza: Is that the real reason?
Me: let's call it a day, good bye
Eliza: Hmmm.... Interesting, could you explain a little bit better?
Me: bye
Eliza: It's been a pleasure talking to you, bye.

I noticed a bug: I told Eliza that I had a headache, and she said "How is he doing these days?". I think Eliza is sensing the word "he" in "headache" (HEadache). You might want to fix that. :)
I notice that a comment below mine shows that Eliza sensed the word "he" in "the" or "weather". Hmmmmm...

Download it and run it in Turbo-Speed and it'll run faster.

E: Aren't we just a bit negative today? M: NO! E: You're being repetitious. M: thats true. E: Hmmm... Interesting, could you explain a little bit better? I notice that if you run Eliza in Turbo-Speed, it's much quicker. Have you tried that? It really helps.

(view all replies)A great project. Very impressive. I had actually started working on an Eliza program with a genuine 70’s style TTY output. I switch to making an adventure game instead because parsing entire sentences was too hard. But you did it! You’re so smart!

This is astonishing! The problem with Eliza is that whenever I talk to it,I eventually threaten to kill it. I yell things like "I'm going to disconnect the internet!" or "I'm going to turn off my computer!" Its quite fun, actually. This Eliza has the right personality, though it is rather polite. Such as "You are being a bit negative (Real Eliza)." and "Aren't we being a bit negative today? (Your Eliza)". Anyway, great work!

That's right, this mus be a bug in the java player. If you download Eliza and play it offline, the graphic effects work correctly.

I have downloaded and tested Eliza and found that she has trouble comprehending the concept of names and love and does not know when she is complimented. I will post the conversation record soon

what do the symbols @ and # mean in the response list. I want to give it a sense of time, and i just want to know what symbol will make it repeat the keyword...
Those symbols are place-holders and are turned into variable substrings when they become parsed

Cool! I was trying to find the Eliza source code myself. Is this a complete port or did you simplify it for Scratch?
it's actually supposed to be a complete - just ever so slightly modified - port, but from a secondary source, as I did not find the original listing. Plus, it's still quite buggy...

Great! I didn't think Eliza was possible in Scratch, but you made it! Also first time I see Scratch 1.4 works online :-)

He's Jens. he MAKES new test versions of scratch and stuff. He is a member of the scratch team I think. he might have even helped MAKE 1.4. I think that's how he got 1.4.

I think turbo speed might make it faster... I just can't wait now for scratch 1.4, if only just so I could download this project!!
