I have noticed some differences between the online version and the run-in-Scratch bersion, mostly to do with the volumes of some of the audio, which means some sounds are mixed wrongly. I have added a control - the "r" key now mutes the radio (it's a distraction), but it refuses to work in the online version.
...So there I was, slowly gaining confidence, making my way through the levels...and some idiot starts SHOOTING at me with a freakin' ray gun! This is one tough game...
Hmmm. Now the main thrusters don't seem to be working...might be a bit of an initialization problem hiding in there somewhere. Please add in a way to turn off the Apollo dialog too...it gets a bit annoying :)
One problem I have had is having my ship float off the screen and get lost. It didn't crash...I just couldn't find my way back on to the screen. I lost a lot of fuel that way.
Thanks. The soundclips are from NASA's Apollo moonlanding in 1969, so they are from a real lunar landing. It's especially nice to consider that the little puffs in the background on the audio are real thrusters.
There are many levels to this game. The first few are training levels to get you used to the controls.
You get an extra life at the end of a level, but you don't get any extra fuel.

Rocket Lander
A game by Fractal
Up-Arrow : fire main thrusters.
Left-Arrow and Right-Arrow : rotate the rocketship.
r : Turn Radio on/off. The radio can be a distraction.
Try to land the rocketship on the landing-pad.
Fuel is limited - you wouldn't want to run out!
Go Slowly - the spaceship is very fragile - too fast or if you don't land nearly level, the landing gear will buckle and the fuel-tanks will explode!
In the top-left you have a fuel guage with a speed warning indicator for both vertical and horizontal movement. When these show bright-red, you are moving too fast to attempt a safe landing. If a yellow warning-triangle appears, your craft is at too sharp an angle to land - rotate to the upright position.
In the top-right you have a lives-indicator and a blue outline of the rocketship which is a measure of your hull-integrity. The fainter this graphic is, the closer you are to losing hull-integrity and a life. If you touch the landscape or land on the pad too fast or crooked, your hull will take damage. The amount of damage sustained will depend on your speed.
The first few levels are simple training levels.
Things start to get a bit interesting after that...

oops comment got messed up i meant oh hey are you still on or did you just take a test run of scratch?
oh hey are you still of it?
cool game!
Fractal - I don't know where to put that, but - Maciej's game is up. users/lesmatthias - I'm sure he'd love a visit.
I saw his tank game just before reading this post - thanks. I thought he did a great job.
And wonderful to see your lunar lander up here BTW!

Have you advertised this on the forums yet? There have to be some other frustrated space pilots out there that want to try and beat this game!
Not really. How do you mean?

Lol Glad you are playing it! Needless to say it IS possible to make it through all the levels without losing a life, even to fuel.

Hmm can't replicate that bug yet
Ok - good idea. I did notice some bugs / differences on the Scratchsite version, but not to do with the thrusters.
On the first level, I was able to do a roll and then stick the landing - very cool!
Lol, such skills are important for the later levels, especially the ones in a zero-g environment, or the inside-asteroid levels.
One problem I have had is having my ship float off the screen and get lost. It didn't crash...I just couldn't find my way back on to the screen. I lost a lot of fuel that way.
Yes I never did fix that. Some of the later levels can be skillfully completed by going off-screen and drifting back on again.
This is the most detailed Lunar Lander version I have ever seen. It's amazing! The sound clips add a great sense of authenticity to it too. Great job!
