I know. The color sensing is not as accurate as if I had used other methods. I made this to try to put Paddle2See's method of sensing into use, but it is different for a scrolling game.
...but that is not enough to get it back to a safe spot. So I don't think the "safe spot" method is going to work with a flickering platform. You probably need to go to something cruder like a test every time either arrow is pressed...
(we're back to 250 characters for comments). The lines are being drawn and redrawn very fast and what is happening (I think) is that the cat is walking two steps before it gets hit by a black line and tries to back up the one step the method uses...
Okay...I increased the size of the red dots in the whiskers and that helped some...at least the black lines were being sensed (I put a pop sound in that branch so I could tell when it was sensing). But that wasn't enough....
This is a cool idea...I didn't realize at first that the platforms were being drawn dynamically by the pen, they looks so solid! I did have some trouble with the cat walking through vertical walls and falling off the screen...I'm not sure what the problem is there, you should be able to back up the scroll as soon as the cat touches a vertical wall, just like backing up the cat in a non-scrolling application.
Download "Scroller"(30 sprites and 60 scripts) and open it in Scratch
Project Notes
This scroller was created using my "Make your own scroller" and paddle2seefixit's sensing for a non rotating sprite. The sensing is a bit glitchy still, but it should work just fine. There is no real end to it, but another level could be created with ease! Simply hook up the remaining unconnected blocks, and use the simple level editor. There are unconnected blocks in the stage, mode button, level editor sign, and instructions. Just drag the points in the level editor around, but hide the cat while you are doing this.
Here is the original project "Make your own scroller" (link to project)
Here is the sensing project: (link to project) The sensing is a bit messed up in mine because the cat is stationary for it's x position, and it's y position changes. I had to implement this method for scroll X and used cheesy color sensing to help.
