That's what I was looking at, how to take a slow application and make it faster. I was using broadcasts to mirror the rendering which doubled the speed, but the mirrors got out of sync in the Java version.
Again - as with your other mandelbrot experiment, the speed is really impressive. You create some seriously interesting and advanced programs with Scratch.

I wanted to do more iterations, but the programs become really hard to edit because scratch slows down with really long scripts.
