Scratch 1.2 is currently in beta testing right now. If you're willing to have a version of Scratch that has bugs in it then you can go to the forums to download it.
im confused... why coldent you just tell it when to put the pen down and what color it should be? you made it really really complex and what is exactly a "raytracer"
I'm sorry to hear that it froze on you. If you want to see the final image without waiting for it to finish there is a link to the image in the project notes.
you should let this run until it's finished at home then do a grab screen region for new sprite by right clicking on the stage and selecting the area that has the picture on it and make it so people with no patience can see the really nice picture too

The obsolete block is a block that isn't understood by Scratch 1.1. When Scratch 1.2 comes out you will be able to see it.
