Hey bolt bait. I can see from all your games that you are an amazing programmer, and by the development times that you put a lot of time into them. They always have great graphics and gameplay. Would you consider joining this collab? (link to forums)
Study the deck handling techniques that I use until you completely understand them. (They're pretty easy, actually.) Specifically, make sure you understand how I shuffle, deal, and manage a deck of cards. This is a good project to study for all of that.
Great project, do you do your own graphics? Also, check out my new game I'm starting. The graphics are terrible on mine. :D Here's the website: (link to project)
I win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
A lot of fun! The card dealing and shuffling is excellent and the AI seems very good too. Maybe spend more time on the score display...those default variables aren't very pretty :)
Addictive! I had to play five times for a single win Does this work with the kindle you mentioned elsewhere? On smaller touchscreens cards might be difficult to grab.
I'd also suggest adding more players. When someone has no more cards, the others keep playing until they all finish. And probably (at least I play it so) when someone plays a 10, the order of play is revesrsed (like an UNO reverse card)
New version: you now score 1 point for each card in your opponents hand at the end of the game. You can also score points for good play... like playing a 2 in response to a 2 or playing an 8 right after your opponent plays an 8.
Download the 5 sprites and 26 scripts of "Crazy 8's" and open it in Scratch
Project Notes
Crazy 8's
by: BoltBait.
Development time: ~8hrs.
Rules of the game:
The goal of this 2 player game is to get rid of all cards in your hand before your opponent does the same.
Play begins when the dealer deals 8 cards to each player and then deals 1 card face up next to the draw pile creating a discard pile.
Players take turns playing cards from their hand to the discard pile. Cards played must match either the suit or the rank of the top card of the discard pile. There is one exception to this: An 8 may be played on any card. If a player plays an 8, they pick the suit for play to continue.
If a player can not play, they must draw cards from the draw pile until a valid card is drawn. If the draw pile is exausted, the player may "Pass" the turn.
If a 2 is played, the next player must play a 2 or draw 2 cards. If they do play a 2, the original player must play a 2 or draw 4 cards, etc.
Click "Love it".

Sorry, but I usually just collab with myself. :D
(view all replies)Cool game! I'm making a euchre game. You seem like the person to ask for tips. Do you have any?

(view all replies)it's the ultimate play draw 8, happened twice in a game lol
"there's gotta be a good card in there somewhere." lol.
Amazing!!!!!! u did VERy well!!!! one of the BEST games on scratch i have seen! this is just SO amazing! :D
You should be able to choose if you want to have your hand auto-sort or not, but other than that its excellent.
I won!
this game is mean to me
I had to draw 5 cards in one turn and I then didn't have any hearts and then a crazy eight was put down saying hearts and I had to draw another 4
wow
Noooo! You won, but I only had one more card and I was about to put it down...
hahaha nice voice so fun love it
I love this game. :)
lol development is 8hrs
Waahhh... That's so great! Best Work <33 Like it
Oh look another legendary BoltBait game
i got 8 amd the computer got 1 and it says tie game wut the heck!!!!
To win the game you must run out of cards.
(view all replies)i won
only 8 hours? Man I'm no programmer at all XD
Don't forget that normally, the best games take the most amount of time to make. This may be a good game but overall, slower is better.
This was not my first card game. I had worked out most of the hard parts on other games.
Great project, do you do your own graphics? Also, check out my new game I'm starting. The graphics are terrible on mine. :D Here's the website: (link to project)
1# Because I won I'm 1# yes finally
I win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
another tie
I won the fourth game
You use Paint.NET too? :D Awesome game, btw. But the computer's pretty tough to beat!
I like how it automatically re-arranges your cards according to suit and value.
Tip: if you get bored on how long it takes to draw cards, turbo mode works!
Turbo mode doesn't actually speed up the dealing. But, it does speed up the sorting and AI.
I got a Tie
Keep playing. I'll beat you next time. ;)
(view all replies)WOW! The graphics are awesome! Hoe did you make this?
If you use Paint.NET plugins, I bet you use some that are written by me. :) (Also, my name is in the Paint.NET about box. Don't believe me? Check!)
Oh, it mentions in the project notes that the graphics are done in Paint.NET. --->
(view all replies)I made this by dragging blocks around in the editor. How do you make projects?
(view all replies)i win!!!
I win!!! The opponent this time kept placing down cards which had classes matching my cards, so I never had to pick up any cards.
You've done it again!!!
I won, great game dude. At least we still have you since 08jackt left scratch.
He did he's gone he's not making stuff not even viewing stuff not even playing Scratch?!
after five games i got 31-10 me i pwned. Awesome game! Love it and Favorite it

This is amazing!

I WON! Holy cow! this game is awesome! Nice job!
good game bolt love it
Nice work!
addictive
Wow, this is amazing. I love how the computer actually sorts your cards according to suit and rank.
HOW DO YOU MAKE STUFF
I do it the normal way.
(view all replies)Nice game! I really like it. :)
I like the new Draw 2 rule you added :)
ummmm, clubs! haha love it!
Thanks. I wanted to simulate playing against a real player.
I won with a score of seven
but it takes a bit long to deal...might change that a bit?
WHOA! THIS IS INSANELY AWESOME! YOU JUST EARNED YOURSELF A LOVE IT!
Won first match easy. DOesn't help he had two draw 10 card though XDDDDDDD
Wow!
I just played 5 straight games. Final score, Computer 21, me 17. :(
SO Fun!
This is the best game ever on Scratch, in my opinion. :)
A lot of fun! The card dealing and shuffling is excellent and the AI seems very good too. Maybe spend more time on the score display...those default variables aren't very pretty :)
Your secret is safe with me :)
(view all replies)Thanks. As for the look of the default variables, talk to the Scratch team about that!
(view all replies)The voice feature is cool.
(view all replies)Addictive! I had to play five times for a single win
Does this work with the kindle you mentioned elsewhere? On smaller touchscreens cards might be difficult to grab.
I haven't tried it on my Kindle yet, but it should work just fine.
I'd also suggest adding more players. When someone has no more cards, the others keep playing until they all finish. And probably (at least I play it so) when someone plays a 10, the order of play is revesrsed (like an UNO reverse card)
I just played 10 games. Final score was Me: 64, Computer 17.
I suggest making an UNO game, which is a card game similar to Crazy 8's but way more interesting and fun :D
I'm working on UNO :DDDD In fact, I'm working on it right now :P Programming the AI is so damn hard :l
I agree
There is already a good UNO game here (link to project)

wahooooooooooooooooooo! this is awesome!
