Download "Draw your Character …"(2 sprites and 16 scripts) and open it in Scratch Project Notes
I'm just seeing different ways to do this (your able to draw your own character). So, you use the square to stamp 4 times and the fifth starts the movement (sorry, for some reason it doesn't recognize the fifth?). It should work. After the fifth time (the rectangle will disappear) wait 1 second and use the arrow keys to move!

I worked out why it won't recognise the 5th block. Go to the sprite 'Square' and delete 'Change Turn by 1' in the script which sets 'X Pos' to X Position. This is a really good idea and once there is more functionality it will be really good in games but could be so much less complicated if we could stamp on a sprite. SB

You stamp your character using the block, and then use the arrows to move it. I hopefully will have it so you can have unlimited freedom and it still can move

Alright, lemme try and explain this (:). You stamp 4 times. Than once more because for some reason it won't remeber it, so it starts up the movement. Than, just move whatever you made around the screen with your arrow keys
