Definitely follow chrisg's and vanslar's advice. You could get a tripod.

It's definitely a good first try. Try to keep the lighting the same - so either use a flash every time, or not at all. You may need to figure out how to turn off the flash if your camera does that automatically.
I don't really get it. ):
try keeping the camera in a fixed place and move only when your switching seens or veiws
