How I did it:
I made the animation using blender from blender.org it has a fluid simulator, so I made some text, converted it to a mesh object, set it as a fluid, then put it in the fluid 'domain' (a box around the objects where the fluid can be.) I did the same with the "DRY" text, but I called it a collision object, so water wont go through it. It can be challengeing to do this. see http://www.totallyblended.com/Tutorials.html

I have a Blender question: Is there anyway to un-subdivide? I'm creating a car and a needed to use subdived a lot, and now I can't model anything else. :(

Well, The text cant be changes easily like my spinner project. look for video tutorials on fluid. if you have specific questons I'll try to help.

Dude, as brilliant this may be, there is no skill involved. Anyone with the software/website and no mind could make this. It is also even more fustrating when people get projects on the front page w/o any work of their own when some people put loads of effort into various projects that never get noted.

To get attention, scratchers- especially new ones have to ask for attention in the forum, post in galleries, and spam. And those steps are not always known to new users. Sorry you didn't like it. I did not ask for any attention to this project. Yes, the scratch code is very simple. But I did carefully plan and setup the simulation in blender, (1 hour) and it took blender about 4 hours to run the fluid simulation and render. (years of blender/3d experience helped too.)

Yep, it's just a bunch of background images. the script just plays when clicked, and starts where the mouse-y is.

It wouldn't load, but then I downloaded it... Amazing! Great 3D animation. I imagine that took a very long time on blender.

(view all replies)Blender can do many things, but it is very complicated to just start using. It's not like your normal program. It can take years to get good at it. I still don't know everything after 7 years. But to help people get started, I recently made a spinning text project, and tried to make it easy to change the text and color, so if you follow the directions, you should be able to make your own spinning text. (link to project) See the project notes.
hehe. :) It's a 3d computer program called Blender. Kind of like a drawing program. You make shapes, and you can give the shapes color and movement- setup lights and the camera and it draws the picture. It can also simulate water like I did here. (and other thinks like cloth and jell-o.) It's a program similar to what is used in 3d movies.
