Aviary Tutorial

<img src="http://scratch.mit.edu/static/projects/TegansPoppy/100130_sm.png" width="148" height="111" border="1" alt="" />Aviary is the new online image editing service Andres told us about in this forum thread [ http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=20070#p20070 ]. I just received my Aviary account today, and am posting this project to test the workflow for Scratch. The original Aviary file is here: [ http://a.viary.com/imagedetail?fguid=f3762322-2d4d-102b-844c-0030488e168c ].

3Dish Art

<img src="http://scratch.mit.edu/static/projects/TegansPoppy/93746_sm.png" width="148" height="111" border="1" alt="" />3D-ish effects in Scratch are possible using nothing but gradients. To prove this concept, I've created the following simple art piece using 0 sprites and 0 scripts. Its all just gradients on the background! ;] Oh, goodness - and now that is been uploaded I see that the web version looks kind of rough. Download this to view the effect without all those rings and bands. To get the same effect you see here, set a circular gradient to two similar greys in the paint bucket. Make one circle, then swap the front and back colors, and make another inside of it!

Forum Statistics

Click anywhere in the window to view the next "slide".

The following statistics were gathered from the Scratch forum thread
<a href="http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2153&p=1">http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2153&p=1</a> entitled
"Survey: please help us" under the Announcements category. I counted
up the number of browser and operating system usage instances over
a total of 40 posts. Not all posts were from unique users, nor did all posts
contain a statement ofthe OS/UA used. Some users use more than one
operating system and/or more than one browser. For each unique noted
instance of an OS or UA, a count has been made (regardless if from the
same user or not). This lead to what may or may not be an accurate and
uniform representation of the data from a "site's-eye" perspective.

The resulting counts were as follows:
Windows[ 24], Mac[ 8 ], Linux[ 3 ]
Firefox[ 20 ], IE[ 11 ], Safari[ 5 ]

This project aims to reproduce the Macintosh OSX interface in Scratch.

The words "Test" in both cases are editable text as a costume of each sprite. The window and its folder are both individual sprites.

Features:
{ 1-or-2 player game }
{ alternate play modes }
{ handicap-accessible in volume mode }

LightCycle is a one or two-player version of the LightCycle game from the classic Disney movie TRON.

Click the start button to get into your cycle(s). Press the spacebar to begin moving. Player 1 uses the left and right arrows to steer. Player 2 uses the "Z" and "X" keys. Don't run into the walls or your own trail! Press "H" to toggle the help menu.

Look at the Scripts to discover some secret modes! (Hint: look for scripts that activate when certain undocumented keys are pressed).

An experimental animation in which the red circle is repelled from the black circle when they come in contact.

This started as a test to see whether color-sensing works between sprites and the background costume colors. (Turns out that it does.)
