Just playing around with some instruments, visualization, periodicity, and randomized drawing seeded by mouse positiion. My first Scratch project. Also, has a lame bio accessible via my photo. But the music is more fun.The lightbulbs produce the frequencies of the notes played, and draw them out with random brushes. Surprisingly fun.Enjoy!

Introduction: waking-transition-sleep

I am interested in the ways people experience the world and how those experiences can be communicated to others. In this project, I hope to share some of my experiences: transitioning from externally imposed symbols, to consciously selected symbols, and finally, unconsciously fabricated symbols. The project is intended as an interactive exploration of experiences. Lots of little pieces went into this project, but broadcasting was a central component, as it controlled the appearance and playback of each scene. (As for content, the images were my own and the music is Creative Commons licensed.) There are many things that encourage me to think about for future work. In the second scene, only a finite number of stars can appear. I would like to optimize the production and appearance of stars. I also want to explore different types of interactive user interface controls. Maybe instead of tabs I could try a slider.

Ewe and Me

This is a little stop-motion animation I made with my friends Jonah (an animator) and Ewe (a sheep). Enjoy! Click on it to play it again. How I made this:We set up a camera on a tripod. Jonah took a series of pictures, while I made very small movements between each one (this is a type of animation called pixilation). I made an animated gif out of the photos (using Flash), then imported it into scratch. I recorded and edited the audio using Audacity (a free audio editor). Dorothy made the popping sound.

PlayWithYourFace

INSTRUCTIONS
Click the Green Flag. Move the mouse over the photos to play with different image effects. Click the Green Flag again to restart.

HOW I MADE THIS
In some photos (like the top middle), the mouse position controls the amount of the image effect. In other photos (like the bottom middle), the mouse position controls the rate of change in the image effect. The first case uses the SET EFFECT block; the second cases uses the CHANGE EFFECT block.

MORE IDEAS
In these examples, one image effect is applied to each photo. You might want to apply two (or more) image effects to the same photo. For example, make the x-position control one effect and make the y-position control another effect.
