I have 5 tamagotchis, a v3, a v4, a v4.5, a v5, and a v6. All are still in working order (though currently none have batteries). My favourite was probably the v6 Music Star.

I keep getting this duck-balloon like guy, and my farthest age on there was 6, while I was taking care of it and it died. How weird!
