>> ABOUT US
Merriam-Webster defines the halcyon, our collaborations namesake, as “a bird identified with the kingfisher and held in ancient legend to nest at sea about the time of the winter solstice and to calm the waves during incubation”. Our collaboration emblem represents the head and wings of such a mythical creature glorifying the sun.
While we adhere to typical collaboration standards, we represent a new dawn among Scratch collaborations. Rather than simply acting as a makeshift team to accomplish one small game, we're thinking big. Halcyon intends to foster the mentoring and learning of its individuals amongst each other. Halcyon also intends to teach proper business strategies: meeting deadlines, tracking progress, communicating and negotiating with others, etc.
We are more than meets the eye: a revolution at infancy. We're shooting for nothing less than the stars of heaven above; and if we fall, we fall gracefully.

>> SETTLING IN
Once you have been formally accepted into the Halcyon community, I will invite you to all the necessary studios you would need to be a part of as a Halcyon member. There are a few other things that you can do to help cozy yourself among us:
Required:
1.) Follow the Discussion Thread.
Suggested:
2.) Read through all the studio comments and both threads' replies to get a feel for where we're headed with our current production.
3.) Respond – with relevant content – to any discussions you feel fit to respond to.
Optional:
4.) Follow the Headquarters studio.
5.) Follow your fellow members. You can follow them, or you can not. I'm going to be following all of the collaboration members just to keep a tab on things.
>> FAQs (inspired by bookworm7214)
>> How do I join?
Firstly, check we're open for recuiting. You can do this in two ways: by asking Asjali (me!) on his profile, or heading to the Recruitment Thread and checking on Halcyon's recruiting status.
If we are currently recruiting, visit the Recruitment Thread and fill out the application form in the first post. Post that and watch paint dry for a bit while you wait for Asjali to reply (with a confirmation of submission, or feedback on your application form in the case there's something wrong with it).
If we are not currently recruiting, don't fret just yet! You can either wait until Halcyon opens up for recruitment before applying (submitting your application form on the Recruitment Thread), or contact Asjali directly at his profile stating your interest in the collaboration. Please don't get mad or spam Asjali with posts asking him to be recruited if you're not accepted; that's not a sign of good character. Instead, wait a few weeks before applying again so that you have time to better prepare yourself and your application for recruitment.
>> I'm on the Waitlist. Now what?
You being on the waitlist means that Asjali and the Staff are considering your application and will accept or decline you when the next open recruiting session closes. While you are only a potential member at this point in time, feel free to sift through and join in on the discussion, but only if you have something productive to say about the goings-on in the collaboration. Don't request that your application be considered earlier; Halcyon admits a batch of Scratchers on the Waitlist at once. Keep in mind that due to this recruitment set-up, you might have to wait a long time before joining our ranks.
>> I'm in! Now what?
Check out the studios:
Headquarters – Studio for discussing and releasing content; contains old ideas.
File Cabinet / P4H – Studio for posting/discussing ideas; contains old ideas.
Fan Projects – Studio for posting fan projects related to Halcyon.
Check out this thread, as well as the Recruitment Thread, to get a gist of what we're currently trying to accomplish in the collaboration. If you don't know what you should be doing or what Halcyon is up to, just ask and we'll try to help you get on your feet in regard to the collaboration. You can always contribute, so don't be afraid to join in the middle of a discussion if you have something to say, or start working immediately on something suggested by you or another member. We're always looking for new things to do, so all suggestions are welcome!
>> What's with all the rankings?
Here are the rankings from highest to lowest importance:
1.) Founder: That's me! I'm responsible for founding and maintaining Halcyon.
2.) Council: The Council consist extremely helpful members who have been promoted. It's akin to being a co-leader: you get to help out Asjali, the leader, with collaboration management and advisory while also supervising and working with the Members.
3.) Crew: The Crew consist of Scratchers who have applied to Halcyon and have been accepted into Halcyon itself.
4.) Exes: Exes are members that have had to leave or resign from the collaboration for one reason or another. For example, scratchhacker3000 resigned from Halcyon as he had decided to leave Scratch itself. Potential reasons could include schoolwork, the inability to juggle multiple collaborations at once, prolonged inactivity, etc.
5.) Waitlisted: The Waitlisted are Scratchers who have submitted an application form but have not yet been considered for acceptance into Halcyon.
6.) Interested: The Interested are Scratchers who have expressed their interest in the collaboration, but have not yet submitted an application form.
>> OUTRO
We here at Halcyon hope you enjoyed reading through this post and take our application into consideration. We would love to have you if you have what we need. All you have to do is apply!
Sincerely,
Asjali from Halcyon.

So, my last collab organization attempt fell through with a few potential members and no real direction. Perhaps this attempt at a new collaboration structure will turn out better? This looks like something I'd love to be a part of.
I like to think of my new collaboration idea as something of an epiphany:
Instead of having one centralized project that the collaboration focuses on, why not have it so that the collaborators help others with certain projects or endeavours of theirs? We take all the talented, multifaceted individuals we can scrape off of Scratch, and then we, in a sense, employ them as benefactors to those individuals who cannot develop the massive project or flesh out the story that they want to.
Sometimes, I feel as though Scratch can be a very introverted, circular place for certain individuals. I've seen quite a few people who have had great ideas, but they simply don't know how to get those ideas to the people they want to, or the general Scratch public. And it's been happening since I've been here back in ‘09 with 1.4. Perhaps I’m just rambling about nothing here, but I feel like this website has a lot of intellectual potential that's just waiting to be tapped.
If I, or anybody else, could round up a bunch of awesomely talented Scratchers into one giant helping-hand group… Think of how many projects might actually be finished! Think of how much more progress people will have with their ideas and games and animations!
Perhaps I should organize my thoughts into something more easily digestible:This is my idea for a new kind of collaboration:What do you think? I'm really curious as to how this idea could unfold, or if anybody would be interested in such a broad endeavor at all.
Talented, multifaceted people help others with projects in exchange for recognition and friendship. But these talented collaborators all converge in one quaint studio or forum thread, creating a thriving community atmosphere among themselves that fosters the creative process. Also, the collaboration builds upon a business standpoint: Hard work for recognition and profit, and how to properly handle customers of creative content.

This looks like something I'd love to be a part of.It's a nice, simple, straightforward game! Seems like you have the zest we need. You're in!Check out my newest game, Beat AI to see my talent.
I'll get some sort of thread or studio going once we have one or two more members; hopefully then we can flesh out the collaboration details and get this show on the road.

I love to help and if we can create some epic projects while helping others sounds good to me!You're in, dude! Make yourself cozy while I come up with all the detailed stuff.
NOTES TO ALL CURRENT COLLABORATORS:
If you're not already following this topic, it's strongly suggested that you do. Unless there's a better idea, I'll probably just use this as a recruitment and discussion thread (seeing as I already have the thread established). Also, I've created a studio HERE which you should also follow, just to allow for more private discussion grounds.
Have a look at the POTENTIAL OPENING POST edited into the first post. What do you think about it? Looks good? Any feedback is good feedback, especially for the APPLICATION section, which I'll eventually have people fill out once we get this collaboration running.
NOTES TO POTENTIAL COLLABORATORS VIEWING THIS POST:
We're still open for recruitment. Honestly, I don't see myself denying most anyone because everyone has a talent they can lend to our collaboration. However, I probably will cut off recruitment after a certain amount of members have joined, just so this collaboration doesn't grow into something I can't manage.
I'll keep you guys posted,
Asjali

The new post is great, I love simplicity and ease of reading, I must say you have a talent for writing. I like the idea that your allowing a wide diversity of those on Scratch, most collabs are asking that you have won the Scratcher of the Year Award to be considered for the position lol.

I like the idea that your allowing a wide diversity of those on Scratch, most collabs are asking that you have won the Scratcher of the Year Award to be considered for the position lol.Thank you for the compliment! Realizing that I, myself, don't have as many Scratch accolades and accomplishments as other, more popular users; I figured it is a humble move to recruit all those who are driven enough to enter and contribute, regardless of talent and ability. The only purpose the application form really serves is to determine what people are good at so that I, they, or we can better assign jobs or roles to them (I wouldn't want a young bitmap artist trying to tackle high-level physics unless it has a desire to, etc.).
And since we don't have any demanding group projects or deadlines (… yet), collab members can take the time to better acquaint themselves with one another. If everything goes well, I'll probably assign different divisions based on various criteria so that we are all either helping somebody or working on something within our group. When I came up with this idea, it felt much more like a community gathering rather than a project-based grouping.
Yeah!

PS. Firedrake969, what country are you from? Your profile says “Location not given” and you, in your profile comments, mention you have problems updating it.

Bump.
We're still looking for members in case anybody's interested in signing up. Currently, completing and submitting the application form process (listed under the POTENTIAL OPENING POST section in the opening post) is waived until I can gather up enough collaborative firepower and manpower to justify the effort. Now's your time to join Scratch history in the making!

Yeah, I'll join. I'm in the US.Great. I've added you to the members list. Please accept my invitation to the official collab studio. I've posted a comment in the studio asking for a little introduction, some strengths/weaknesses, and feedback or ideas for the collaboration.
It may seem like I have a lot of the plan already typed up (the first post), but I'm still trying to figure out how we would work (workshop-based like the Scripts Team Workshop, group-project-centric but also helping those who ask for help, a mentor-student system, etc.). The more significant words and ideas we exchange, the quicker and more efficiently we will be able to achieve our individual and group goals.

Maybe we have around 5 “competing” teams that eventually put all their parts together?

I know this is waived, but eh. . .
Nickname (if applicable): bookwormCan I also say that you have a very nice style of writing, Asjali! It flows smoothly, is easy to read and explains well your principles. *ahems* Anyway, I'll be thinking up names for this collab. . .
Age (optional): Yeah, I'll go with ‘optional’.
When are you online?: Around half 4 most weekdays, and most Sundays.
Strengths (things you're good at and can help people with):
1.) Writing (both formal and creative)
2.) Brainstorming and fleshing out ideas/concepts
3.) Drawing manga
Weaknesses (things you're not good at and/or want to be better at with/for Scratch):
1.) Uh, programming? I mean, I'm an average programmer, but I want to get better, especially considering some Scratchers, in circumstances similar to mine, are very proficient programmers.
2.) Vector art
3.) Beating my procrastination!

Nickname (if applicable): bookwormWow, bookworm. The application form wasn't even required and you went ahead and filled it all out! That's some dedication.

Well, guess what that means? You're in! So now that you're a part of our collaboration, you can choose to:
1.) Follow this thread (for any updates that I may post; it's not necessary but I would suggest it just in case I post something important).
2.) Follow the official collab studio HERE. The studios will act as a more private grounds for collaboration discussion. Instead of following the thread, you can always just check back on the thread via the link in the studio from time to time to see what's up and what's new.
3.) You can choose whether or not you want to follow me back, but I've followed you just to make sure I have a tab on the people in the collaboration.
4.) Contribute to the lonely comment in the studio asking for information, feedback, and ideas on how to run the collaboration… if you want. xP
And since you've provided me some wonderful strengths and weaknesses, I'll compress them and put them alongside your other details in the opening post. My goal with this will be to properly index our members, so that we can provide the best candidate to help a person with a specific need. Hopefully, it all works to plan.
Thank you for applying!
PS. What do you mean when you say “Around half 4 most weekdays”? Do you mean that you go online at 4:30 in your local time?
PSS. When you say you're good at drawing manga, do you mean just on paper? Or on say, a bitmap or vector program? Or both?
