Install Ubuntu, and then have at look at these instructions.
Will it work on mint?

Almost certainly - mint is a fork of Ubuntu, but from what I understand, the backend bits are basically the same.

I'm really hoping that the Snap! team comes in here and kicks some butt.

I'm trying to run a project on compare.html (project: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/10702016/), but it is not working. Am I doing something wrong?
My browser / operating system: Windows Vista, Firefox 26.0, Flash 11.9 (release 900)

These projects work in the Scratch HTML5-viewer (1-Nov-13) (except for the say-block in Benchmarks and ask-block in UDHR).
http://scratch.mit.edu/studios/274337/

Projects that don't work in the Scratch HTML5-viewer (1-Nov-13) but there is no obvious reason why they don't work.
http://scratch.mit.edu/studios/274347/

Tested in Ubuntu 10.04, Google Chrome 27.0.1453.110, Flash 11.7 (release 700).

Some have.
Except the Scratch player is only half HTML5, while Snap! is 100% canvas.

This would be good for people who can't use or hate Adobe and Flash, which I know a few.

Which one are you: can't use or hate flash?

I personally really, really hate Adobe and what's doing right now. But we can't really avoid it, can we?

Agreed. The closed nature of Adobe's products can induce mild headaches

I happen to like the DOM-style implementation.

Anyone willing to set up a beta html5 player for all of us?

I´d like to paste some simple project urls into
instead of setting up my own server.

I´d like to see what happens with Flash disabled.

Similar to the beta Flash testplayer http://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/18275/
