Just Dance - Official Topic

I've seen some topics for specific games, but none for JD1+JD2 or the series as a whole.

So this is a place where you can discuss any game in the Just Dance series.

Don't know what Just Dance is?

According to Wikipedia:

Wikipedia wrote:

Just Dance is a rhythm game series developed and published by Ubisoft. The series' title is derived from the Lady Gaga song of the same name, which also appears in the fifth game. The first game in the series was released in 2009 in North America, Europe, and Australia. The main seven games in the series have all been rated E10+ by the ESRB, and 3 by PEGI.

(By the way, you don't have to own the games to discuss them or pick favorite songs. That's what YouTube gameplays are for, I personally use them for things like region exclusives )

Just Dance 2017 trailers are out. *hype hype hype*

Important Note: Just Dance is rated* E10+ (Everyone 10 and Up) for some lyrics, but Scratch's content should be rated E (Everyone). Because of this, not all songs will be appropriate for Scratch. If you think the song you'd like to share isn't appropriate:
  • Don't leave a link to it
  • Leave a note saying something like “I don't think this song is appropriate for Scratch”
Although if you can find it on Scratch and it's been noticed at least a little, chances are it's OK.

* US ratings

Here are my favorite songs on each game:
Just Dance: Eye of the Tiger is a really fun one, but for my FAVORITE, I have to go with DARE. It was one of the very first I did when Just Dance came out in 2009.
Just Dance 2: D.A.N.C.E*, Jump, and It's Raining Men come close, but my absolute favorite from this game (and maybe the entire series) is Move Your Feet.
Just Dance Greatest Hits: Barbie Girl. (I know it's JD2 DLC, but it's not free. Firework is for anyone who wants it)
Just Dance 3: Um, Everything?
Just Dance 4: Never Gonna Give You Up. There are a lot of other great songs, but for some reason I play this one the most. (Although my favorite mashups are Oh No! and The Final Countdown.)
Just Dance 2014: 99 Luftballoons. I have loved this song for forever.
Just Dance 2015: Macarena, Tetris, and You Spin Me Right Round. You're On My Mind is the best and only 4-person mashup, though.
Just Dance 2016: Do I really have to say it?
* Searching for this song is hard. -_- Seriously, Google “Just Dance D.A.N.C.E”.

Here are some of my favo(u)rite songs from the games (based on your template):
Just Dance: Cotton Eye Joe wasn't a bad one, but I think Lump might be my favo(u)rite. Kids in America is probably second.
Just Dance 2: Probably A-Punk. My favo(u)rites growing up were Move Your Feet and Monster Mash. Also close is Big Girl You Are Beautiful. Oh, also Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny) and Rasputin.
Just Dance Greatest Hits: Never played this one honestly.
Just Dance 3: Take On Me or She's Got Me Dancing. Also, Barbra Streisand.
Just Dance 4: Rock n' Roll (Will Take You to the Mountain), Rock Lobster and We No Speak Americano. Beauty and a Beat wasn't that bad IMO.
Just Dance 2014: Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) and It's You.
Just Dance 2015: I Love It and, of course, You Spin Me Round (Like a Record).
Just Dance 2016: Hmm…not a whole lot there I'm hyped for. If I had to pick one, maybe I'm an Albatraoz (even though it's not that good a song IMO).

You don't have to have played it, I just included it because Barbie Girl was one of my favorites, but it was JD2 DLC and wasn't free like Firework.
(In related news, there's occasionally some free DLC on some games - so check the store!)

Also, new topic: Has anyone seen the Just Dance Now/Unlimited remakes of some songs?

I'll give them credit for that, looked up some gameplay and it seems pretty cool.
I still prefer JD though, mostly because you can use your whole body.

Anybody got high-scores they'd like to share?
I've got a couple:
Idealistic (JD2): 5240
Firework (JD2, Free DLC): 4548
DARE (JD1): 3900

No, Beatmania is better because of this.
Anyways, even for as sort of flawed a game it was, I honestly wish the original Just Dance would get a bit more recognition from Ubisoft. It actually had some decent routines. They're only using one from it currently (That's The Way (I Like It)).

Where are they using it? I've seen plenty of other Just Dance songs on JDNow and in mashups.
Also, are you sure that's the right link?

I think it was just in JD Now. Haven't really seen it that much elsewhere.
Also, yes, that's the right link. It's Red Zone and it's from Beatmania. I'm aware it's a SFM.

Don't blame me, blame Ubisoft. They made the dance too fun.

Ah, OK. I looked some up, they've definitely remade some others from the first game.
As for That's The Way (I Like It), it's apparently also a DLC for Just Dance 3 (they released a bunch of JD1 and 2 songs for Greatest Hits/JD3 DLC since those were the first ones not only for the Wii).

Some random facts I found while browsing the internet:

  • The song with the most gold moves* is Proud Mary from JD2 with 9.
  • Similarly, the song with the most shake moves is Lump from JD1.
  • Katy Perry is the only artist to have a song in every game*^.
  • There are no Dance Crew DLCs.
  • The original Just Dance had negative reviews, with IGN even “urging readers not to buy, rent, look at, or even think about Just Dance, lest someone at Ubisoft find out and they prep a Just Dance 2. Such would be the end of all things, mark {my} words”. Despite this, Ubisoft still made more games.
  • Just Dance 3 holds the record for best-selling casual game and best-selling third party Wii game.
  • If you look closely at the dancer in Price Tag, you can see her tongue.
  • If you go under Extras in Just Dance 2, you'll find a section called Contest Winners, where there are 3 fanmade dances for When I Grow Up. This and Blurred Lines are the only songs to have fan-made routines.
  • Rasputin is the only dancer to have appeared in two songs that aren't his own. (YMCA and Hungarian No. 5)
(Mostly taken from here)

* Well, the main 7 games.
^ A couple are DLC.

Not surprised honestly.

Oh yeah, it was pretty harshly received upon release. When I played it recently, I thought it wasn't awful. However, I could understand why they disliked it. Just to think how they say Just Dance 2 would be “the end of all things” and yet it actually turned out better than the original to the point of being somewhat decent.
Also, my favo(u)rite game is either 3 or 4.

I think the main reason it got such negative reviews was mainly due to the controls, the game counts moves on the left hand* for some reason (I don't know how or why it measures those). They changed pretty much EVERYTHING in the second game - the scorebars, dancers, pictograms, even the menu.

* the hand without the Wii remote
