The downtime should be approximately one hour.
The building where our servers live is getting an upgraded connection to the world wide interwebs.
Sorry, this won't make Scratch faster - but it is nice to have more room to grow.

Ok…Will this reset any unpublished projects? What if we're making a project online when this happens? :S

Hello there fellow Scratchers! I like to make animations and art! I'd love it if you'd hop over to my page, and say hello! I love meeting new people! <333

What should happen, if you have the editor open before the site goes offline, is that you'll start to receive warnings that the project can't be autosaved (because the editor, running in your browser, is asking the server to save, but the server isn't responding). The warning will mention that you should save the project locally, to your hard drive - which would be a wise thing to do!

This will have no effect on published or unpublished projects that you aren't editing at the time.

I can't recall the exact numbers, but basically the buildings connection is now like 2 gazilobits, and will be upgraded to 10. Apologies to the technical and detail oriented for not recalling the precise numbers! The good part about this is that we almost saturated the buildings whole connection when 2.0 came out (which would've been bad - no more internets for all our nice friends and colleagues!) Now that it's increasing by quite a lot, that'd be extremely very hard to do.

Why, it's the information super-highway, of course!

Good to know.

@JONATHAN1320: download the offline editor and use that to finish your game, then upload it when scratch comes back online

I need help downloading the offline editor. I have a 64 bit Ubuntu system; does it not permit it?

It's possible, but it's a pain, unfortunately. Here's the tutorial I followed to get it working on my 64 bit ubuntu system:
http://linuxg.net/how-to-install-adobe-2-6-air-on-ubuntu-13-04-raring-ringtail-and-linux-mint-15-olivia/

Once Air is installed, you should be able to install the offline Scratch editor by clicking the link on the Scratch install page.

When you say 2 gazilobits, is that to do with how fast information can be transferred? Or is that the number of users who can connect at a time? Or is it more room to store projects and things (memory)?

You mean 2 gigabits? I don't think there is even such thing as a gazilobit.

I live in new zealand, and it is a place which has an early morning (If you don't understand it means that it is on the left side of the international date line.)
(My character lives in Azantia in another dimension which is easy to teleport to if you can do magic and there are teleporters and spaceships to that place :3 )

anyway, 1 hour is not a long time.
